But the EPA doesn’t have MCL for prescription drugs in normal water and for that reason no knowledge of what amounts can be viewed safe or unsafe. Ignorance Just isn’t Bliss. Many water providers contend that their regular water is safe. The pharmaceuticals found are only in trace amounts, inadequate to do any harm. But many scientists are not so sure about the long run effects. Taking trace amounts if drugs over time, could lead to serious illness. We all must drink water, and so the risks might be unavoidable. Water Filtration – A solution Since nobody knows the risks of drugs in the normal water, isn’t it better to err privately of caution and do something to eliminate the maximum amount of of this contaminant as you can. To the end, home water filtration is the answer. Obtaining a home reverse osmosis water filtration system will help to reduce pharmaceuticals in your regular water but it may be costly to purchase and maintain. Furthermore, reverse osmosis water filtration cannot remove drug contaminants which are molecularly smaller than water.
